Effective saving and searching depends on our using a common business language. The Enterprise Classification Scheme describes our common business language by identifying preferred and non preferred terms for describing documents in all of our information systems.

In this Enterprise Classification Scheme you will find :

  • Function - the broadest units of business performed by the University, typically a business function.
  • Activity Descriptor - processes or groups of tasks undertaken within each function

  • For each term, the Enterprise Classification Scheme shows:

  • Scope Notes - notes that provide guidance on the use of a term
  • Broader Terms - superordinate terms at a higher level
  • Narrower Terms - subordinate terms at a lower level
  • Related Terms - terms at the same level
  • Use - approved terms used to identify and save documents
  • Non-preferred term - variant terms, not to be used to identify and save documents

  • More Information about the Enterprise Classification Scheme:

The terms in the Taxonomy are arranged in a hierarchy, based on the following levels: Function and Activity Descriptor.

The Thesaurus includes Non-preferred terms including synonyms and equivalents of preferred terms, and obsolete terms. All non preferred terms are linked to preferred terms so that searching always leads the user to the preferred term option.
